Life finds a way – an ominous tagline for the franchise that keeps finding its way back into our hearts. Later this year we will be treated to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom the sequel to 2015 hit, Jurassic World, and the fifth movie in the Jurassic franchise. Besides, the new trailer that was released in December not much information has been released about the upcoming film. Here is what we know so far-
There will be dinosaurs.
While 2015’s Jurassic World felt very much like a remake of the original 1993 film with a modern spin, Fallen Kingdom promises to give fans a new story with higher stakes than ever. No longer is the franchise about humans trying to survive a stay on the treacherous islands. Instead, this sequel will offer us some profound philosophical questions regarding humankind’s responsibilities over the mistakes made in previous movies.
Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Terminator Salvation) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) will be reprising their roles as Claire Dearing and Owen Grady, while Jeff Goldblum (Thor: Ragnarok, Independence Day) will make his return as fan favorite Ian Malcolm, albeit in a small way. The movie is directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) and scribed by Star Wars episode IX writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, based on characters and settings from bestselling novelist Michael Crichton.
A synopsis offered by IMDb gives us a breakdown of the film as we know thus far:
“Four years after the Jurassic World theme park was closed down, Owen and Claire return to Isla Nubar to save the dinosaurs when they learn that a once dormant volcano on the island is active and is threatening to extinguish all life there. Along the way, Owen sets out to find Blue, his lead raptor and discovers a conspiracy that could disrupt the natural order of the entire planet. Life has found a way, again.”
From what can be gathered from the trailers, Fallen Kingdom will include characters with contradicting beliefs when it comes to the fate of the monsters that humanity has created. We can assume Ian Malcolm will be a strong advocate for letting nature set its course, and we should highly doubt that they will be able to convince him to make one more return to the island. Main characters Claire and Owen have invested much of their life’s work to the creatures of Isla Nubar, and we already know that they risk their tails to save as many as they can. What we don’t know is who is helping them transport the dinosaurs.
There are a few guaranteed elements that we have come to expect from the franchise. Somebody will be eaten by a dinosaur. A dinosaur will eat another dinosaur. Chris Pratt will make many witty remarks. And, we will once again be treated to one of the most exceptional scores ever made for a movie.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has been scheduled for release on June 22, 2018.
For now, you can watch the first two exciting trailers.
